Simplifying Hazardous Location Fire Suppression Systems
Customer Problem
Fire suppression systems for hazardous locations typically include an actuating device that opens the discharge valve on the extinguishing agent cylinder, tubing to route discharge pressure (a source of potential leak points), and an enclosure to prevent accidental ignition of any flammable substances in the atmosphere. TLX received numerous inquiries about a less complex solution that would satisfy hazardous location requirements and be easier to install.
The TLX Solution
TLX’s team developed a top-mounted linear actuator that acts as its own enclosure. The top-mounted design means the Explosion-Proof Actuator with Supervision does not act as a pressure vessel on the discharge valve, reducing the number of potential leak points in the system. Additionally, all potential flame paths are designed to prevent flame egress. All enclosure components and flame paths are made from passivated 304 stainless steel, with no brass, bronze, or copper used for any exterior components.
